Ensim Unveils Solution for Mass Shared Hosting

November 3, 2003 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Ensim Corporation (ensim.com) launched Ensim Extend today, a professional grade "mass-shared hosting" automation solution designed to help Web hosting service providers manage the growth of their businesses. Extend is the Sunnyvale, California-based company's seventh new product launch since April.
The Ensim Extend console works in tandem with WEBppliance Professional for Linux. Service providers can layer Extend on top of existing WEBppliance Pro deployments, allowing them to increase the scale of their operations, "without having to rip and replace your infrastructure," said Steve Dauber, vice president of marketing for Ensim, in an interview. "You can grow from a single WEBppliance server hosting 10 Web sites all the way up to thousands of Web servers hosting tens of thousands of Web sites." The end result of such a deployment is a single integrated large scale hosting system, he said.
The inspiration behind Extend, said Dauber, was the need to help smaller hosts grow into bigger hosts. "Customers were at the heart of the creation." According to Dauber, Extend addresses the key missing ingredients of hosting automation solutions that exist in the market today: scalability and extendability. "That's what this product is all about. It's designed to help companies?grow up into operations with tens of thousands of Web sites."
Dauber also explained that Extend is designed to not only help hosts grow, but to help them remain profitable during growth. "We don?t want people to grow into bankruptcy."
Extend helps hosting service providers achieve efficient and profitable growth of their operations by improving their capital utilization and operational efficiency. Capital utilization is realized through the automatic selection and provisioning of Web sites on servers based on usage, server characteristics and policies, which can be set according to the service provider's requirements. Extend also delivers automated site migration and centralized tracking/monitoring of CPU, bandwidth, disk space and memory. Extend aids hosts in achieving operational efficiency through fault tolerate DNS management, central IP address management, centralized monitoring of HTTP, FTP, POP and SMTP across all servers, and central billing interfaces. Extend also provides support for delegating resources to reseller distribution channels.
Ensim WEBppliance Pro was released in April of the year.
