(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Domain and Internet services wholesaler eNom (www.enom.com) announced on Monday that it had partnered with social media platform developer Ning (www.ning.com), a deal that will see Ning offer domain names to users of its platform, while eNom promotes Ning social website tools to its eNomCentral retail customers.

In a quote included in the press release, Ning EVP of strategy and corporate development Matt Halprin says its social platform will be available to the eNomCentral customer base, helping them to “evolve their websites into truly custom social destinations.”

“In the same vein, eNom is making its product available to our creators,” says Halprin. While Ning customers previously had to leave the company’s tools in order to acquire domain names, they are now able to purchase domains starting at $24.95, directly through its Ning Dashboard.

For users of eNom’s direct-sales domains and hosting business, Ning will be promoted (and is already being promoted, it seems by a banner ad that links directly to the ning.com site) as the go-to tool for creating social networking functionality.

The benefit to both parties is pretty evident – Ning now has a supplier of domain names, and the means to supply a necessary component of a social networking site (the domain) to customers who want to build these sites. eNom has another reseller. It isn’t clear from the announcement or from the eNomCentral website whether the company stands to profit directly (in the affiliate/commission sense) from sending new users to Ning.

“We are excited to bring the social power of the Ning platform to our customers as they understand the importance of having a personalized destination online,” says Chris Sheridan, vice president of sales for eNom, also quoted in the release. “We also appreciate the opportunity to make domain registration a simple and complementary step in the creation of customized websites by Ning Creators.”
