Enclosure Provider EMS Becomes Data Center Alliance Member

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center hardware provider Elliptical Mobile Solutions (www.ellipticalmedia.com) has joined the Data Center Alliance (www.the-data-center-alliance.com), a central source of products and services for building IT infrastructures, providing clients a wider range of data center solutions to help cost containment.

EMS provides enclosures for the mobilization, operation, environmental protection, and security of electronic equipment. It claims that its Micro-Modular Data Centers (MMDCs) solution makes it the only company in the world to build at the rack level with on-board cooling, security, and fire suppression. The enclosures also offer patented “closed loop” cooling providing hot and cold isle containment within the rack so that cooling is applied directly to equipment, ensuring up to 80 percent in cooling cost savings and a further 50 percent in electrical costs compared to a traditional data center.

As an amalgam of technology providers, the DCA’s strength lies in the technologies its members bring to the table. One of the founding members, Minicom Advanced Systems (www.minicom.com), itself a developer of IT and KVM remote access and management solutions, said that EMS is a welcomed member of the alliance.

“The DCA has been well received by its target audience, with positive feedback at our technology webinars,” Minicom business development director David Zucker said in a statement. “This momentum of these activities is encouraging new vendors to place a priority on participating, which in turn increases the value of the DCA for the technology consumer. With the addition of EMS, we are looking forward to hosting more events and delivering more valuable content to DCA members.”

The DCA, with initial members Minicom, Wright Line, ServerTechnology, Uptime Devices, and Digi International, strives to fill the information gap in the marketplace by providing a single, comprehensive source for building successful IT infrastructures. Of course, there are other alliances developing in the industry such as the Virtual Computing Environment Coalition formed by Cisco Systems (www.cisco.com), EMC (www.emc.com) and VMware (www.vmware.com), however, there seems to be room for the DCA around its more high-profile rivals.

“The data center industry needs to undergo a major transformation over the next 10 years to significantly reduce its carbon footprint,” EMS chief executive officer Bill Stockwell stated. “We are proud to be part of the Data Center Alliance, which is dedicated to offering IT leaders the most comprehensive solutions for their current and future data center needs.”
