EMS-Cortex Launches Module for BackupAgent Online Backup

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Control panel and provisioning software provider EMS-Cortex (www.ems-cortex.com) has integrated online backup software BackupAgent (www.backupagent.com) into the 8.2 release of its flagship product, Cortex, letting service providers easily roll-out online backup services using BackupAgent and seamlessly provision those services in Cortex.

According to its Friday announcement, automatic and fast provisioning of BackupAgent significantly shortens the time-to-market for Cortex-based service providers, and increases possible margins and return-on-investment. The solution is fully integrated with Microsoft’s (www.microsoft.com) Hosted Messaging & Collaboration platform and Active Directory.

“BackupAgent support in Cortex gives our customers new revenue streams and allows them to provide more differentiation,” EMS-Cortex general manager Colin Williams said in a statement. “The Cortex Platform also allows BackupAgent to be easily sold through a reseller or distribution channel.”

The client software is available for both the consumer and SMB and can backup desktops, laptops and servers, including Microsoft Exchange and SQL backups.

BackupAgent CEO Edward van der Jagt said the impetus of the integration was popular demand by Cortex customers. “BackupAgent’s tight integration with Active Directory and the flexibility of the Cortex architecture made the integration of BackupAgent with Cortex a straightforward and seamless effort,” van der Jagt said in a statement.
