(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — EMC Corporation (www.emc.com) announced on Thursday that it has launched its new EMC ProSphere Storage Resource Management solution, designed to meet the needs of cloud computing and virtualized environments.
According to the press release, ProSphere delivers an end-to-end view of storage assets no matter the location, allowing single-pane management. Designed to manage larger environments while integrating virtualization and hybrid cloud computing, EMC says ProSphere is integrated with the latest EMC and VMware storage and virtualization technologies to give users the tools to streamline management of storage infrastructures.
EMC ControlCenter users are able to upgrade to ProSphere free of charge, according to the press release. When it is generally available at the end of July, ProSphere will support EMC Symmetrix, VMAX, DMX, VNX and CLARiiON series of arrays, as well as the new VMAXe system.
According to the press release, ProSphere was built to address the size and scale of large data centers. The solution installs and discovers most enterprise environments in under eight hours, EMC says.
With real-time monitoring and analysis, EMC says ProSphere users will realize the operational and capital cost savings of virtualization.
“With the introduction of ProSphere, EMC is charting an aggressive course that maps customers’ storage resource management capabilities to next generation computing platforms,” Jay Mastaj, senior vice president and general manager, EMC Infrastructure Management Group stated. “Full integration and support for the latest EMC and VMware technologies will enable ProSphere users to maximize the value of the investments they’re making in virtualization and cloud technologies.”
With agent-less discovery, EMC says ProSphere rids the burden of installing and managing host agents.
According to the company, ProSphere reduces the number of physical servers to run the application by up to 75 percent compared to its predecessor.
