(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center storage and recovery solutions provider EMC (www.emc.com) announced on Wednesday it will purchase data center management provider Configuresoft (www.configuresoft.com) for an undisclosed sum.
The acquisition follows EMC World 2009, where company CEO Joe Tucci revealed that EMC was going to embark on a major acquisition spree to reinforce EMC’s position in the market.
This looks to be the first of many crucial buys for EMC in the data center services market to help customers manage their virtual sprawl, while complimenting EMC’s data storage and recovery services.
Based in Colorado Springs, Configuresoft provides server configuration, change and compliance management software.
Configuresoft’s Enterprise Configuration Manager and Configuration Intelligent Analytics help companies “achieve and maintain continuous operational, regulatory, and security compliance across their data centers,” according to the press release.
The products will be integrated with EMC’s network change and configuration management and service management solutions, as well as its automated root-cause analysis and application dependency mapping software.
As a result, customers gain complete visibility and control across their physical and virtual IT infrastructure.
“With Configuresoft, we’re gaining market-leading server configuration management solutions, giving customers the power they need to fully automate the data center in compliance with new physical and virtual best practice policies,” says Chris Gahagan, senior vice president of Resource Management Software at EMC. “With the addition of Configuresoft solutions to our broad family of IT management software, EMC now offers the strongest and most complete combination of server, storage, and network configuration automation tools on the market today.”
Since 2008, EMC has been reselling Configursoft’s Enterprise Configuration Manager and Configuration Intelligent Analytics under the brand names of EMC Server Configuration Manager and Configuration Analytics Manager.
After the acquisition, the brands will remain the same while Configuresoft will be integrated into EMC’s Resource Management Software Group.
The company says the acquisition is expected to close in June, and is not expected to affect the company’s revenue for the rest of 2009.
RSA, the security division of EMC, recently joined the MSPAlliance’s Managed Services Accreditation Program.
