EMC Buys Security Software Firm Archer Technologies

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center storage and recovery solutions provider EMC (www.emc.com) announced earlier this week it will acquire IT security and risk management software provider Archer Technologies (www.archer.com). The terms of the deal were undisclosed.

The deal, which was backed by Bain Capital Ventures, is expected to close this quarter.

Archer’s widgetry and staff of 138 employees will be integrated into EMC’s RSA Security technology to keep sensitive secured corporate networks.

With annual revenues of $30 million, Archer’s IT security and risk management software can be deployed on-premises or as an SaaS solution.

The software lets users monitor and manage rules-based compliance on how data is protected in physical and virtual infrastructures.

The company has reportedly six million licensed users, including 25 percent of the Fortune 100.

As a result of the acquisition, Archer says it will further strengthen its ability to fuel its customers’ success, rapidly deliver new solutions to market and empower both IT-GRC and Enterprise GRC programs on a global scale.

Other benefits include additional resources focused on product management and development, services and sales, greater integration with technology solutions from EMC and the RSA Security Division, and access to EMC’s international data centers for SaaS/hosted customers.

The announcement follows a series of acquisitions by EMC in 2009, including storage solutions provider Data Domain, and data center management provider Configuresoft.
