EMC Buys 450,000-Square-Foot Building in Durham, NC For Data Center and Lab

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Having announced a $280 million expansion plan in the Triangle over the next five years, data management company EMC (www.emc.com) has bought a 450,000-square-foot warehouse building in Durham, North Carolina, for $22.6 million, where it will a new data center and research and development lab totaling 260,000 square feet of space.

According to a local report from the Triangle Business Journal, EMC has bought the Essex Center building at building in the Imperial Center business park in Durham, which the company expects will create 112 new jobs by 2015 in addition to the company current North Carolina workforce of more than 900.

EMC will be expanding not only in Durham County, but it will also will increase its presence in Research Triangle Park and Apex locations in North Carolina. The state Economic Investment Committee awarded EMC a Job Development Investment Grant in September worth as much as $7.4 million on the condition that it meet all of the incentives criteria, including the creation of 397 new jobs in the state paying an average annual salary of $73,325.

Earlier in October, competing storage and data management provider NetApp (www.netapp.com) officially opened an 132,000-square-foot, energy-efficient data center at the NetApp technology center in Research Triangle Park in North Carolina.
