A pie chart in Eleven's 2010 IT decision-maker survey
(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — German email security solutions provider Eleven (www.eleven.de) announced on Wednesday it has published its 2010 IT decision-maker survey.
The report showed that managed services are becoming increasingly important when it comes to email security, and IT decision makers prefer specialist providers over “one-stop shops.”
The report comes a week after Eleven issued its Feburary 2011 “E-Mail Security Report“.
The survey found that customer service, data protection, as well as performance values like spam recognition and false-positive rates, play a key role in the case of purchasing decisions. Meanwhile, price, origin, and provider popularity play less important factors.
The survey reveals significant growth potential for managed email security with only 39 percent of respondents using managed email security services.
At the same time, 21 percent of IT decision makers currently using an in-house solution indicated that they would consider outsourcing for their next email security solution decision and 21 percent said they wouldn’t rule it out.
In-house software solutions are currently the most prevalent at 48 percent, while hardware appliances only account for a 13 percent share.
The survey showed that 81 percent of respondents are particularly concerned about data security, while 66 percent fear losing control of their own IT.
For email security, German IT decision makers prefer to go with specialist providers rather than manufacturers with broad portfolios.
Quality and expertise in specific fields are considerably more important than a comprehensive product portfolio.
When it comes to choosing an anti-spam solution, the natural focus is that of spam detection rates, as 85 percent of respondents admitted that identified spam detection rates as very important or a purchasing criterion.
Detailed results of the IT decision-maker survey can also be found on the eleven security blog.
