(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Bolstering its presence at its fourth data center in support of its growing email business, hosted Microsoft Exchange provider Intermedia (www.intermedia.net) has expanded its operations at its latest East Coast data center, which is run by network-neutral data center and Internet exchange services provider Switch and Data (www.switchanddata.com).
According to Switch and Data’s Thursday announcement, the added presence at this site, which it first announced in April, adds geographic diversity and network resiliency, amounting to enterprise-grade hosted email performance and reliability for small and medium-sized businesses.
“More than 200,000 business people rely on us for their hosted Exchange mailboxes,” Intermedia chief operating officer Jonathan McCormick said in a statement. “When selecting a colocation provider on the East Coast, Switch and Data’s site was the obvious choice as it offers Intermedia high-density power and a 99.999 percent SLA on our Exchange hosting business. With our coast-to-coast presence, our customers can feel confident about the high-quality and reliable services we provide.”
The Switch and Data site Intermedia selected is supplied with more than 20 megawatts of power with full N+1 redundancy for its UPS, generator and cooling infrastructure. Switch and Data has also interconnected this new site with its existing data centers in the market, providing access to more than 400 networks and making it one of the most densely-interconnected data centers in North America.
Intermedia is also using Switch and Data’s TechSmart remote technical support services to simplify its geographic expansion. TechSmart, which is available at every Switch and Data colocation site, offers pre-scheduled technical support services as well as its rapid response technical service, which includes features such as complete equipment installations, and equipment reboots and monitoring. TechSmart makes it easy for companies to scale their geographic footprint while minimizing time and travel demands on its own network support team.
