The Open-Xchange Summit is the first week of November in Cologne, Germany
(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Email provider Open-Xchange (www.open-xchange.com) announced on Thursday that it will demo an exclusive preview of its next-generation web-based communication software to attendees of its third annual Open-Xchange Summit on November 4 in Cologne, Germany.
This announcement comes a few days after Open-Xchange named Bob Pacheco senior vice president and general manager Americas. The company also announced plans to open an office in San Francisco.
According to the press release, the next version of Open-Xchange Server, set to launch in the second half of 2012, features a redesigned web-based interface. The new interface will improve compatibility with smart phones and tablets.
“Social messaging, collaboration and mobility are the three key aspects driving the development of the next generation of products from Open-Xchange,” Rafael Laguna, CEO of Open-Xchange said in a statement. “Our next Open-Xchange Server uses the concept of a web desktop where the user’s home screen runs inside a single browser window, yet appears to be their desktop running different applications. Those applications can all be integrated and – like on a smartphone – that makes navigation from one app to another quite simple.”
New features will also help users easily manage daily tasks. For example, the reengineered InfoStore used to manage and share pictures, videos and other documents. According to Open-Xchange, data and information like email or messages from social networks that relate to a particular person can be found easily.
Open-Xchange says the Summit is expected to draw more than 300 representatives from web hosting companies, SaaS providers and on-premise channel partners.
Featured speakers for the free event include keynotes by Tier1 Research analyst Daniel Beazer and Laguna. Breakout sessions are divided into two tracks focused on business issues and a technical track.
Sponsors of the event include LuxCloud, Parallels, Scality, Univention, Digitec, eleven, nfon, Openwave, Reddoxx, SpamExperts and SuSE Linux.
WHIR editor-in-chief Liam Eagle will be at the Open-Xchange Summit where he will be a moderating a panel.
