(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) – Email provider Open-Xchange announced on Tuesday that it expects to double its number of users to 80 million paid inboxes by the end of 2012.
This announcement comes a few weeks after Open-Xchange CEO Rafael Laguna said its user base had reached 42 million in a WHIR TV video at its partner summit in Cologne, Germany.
At its summit, Open-Xchange announced that it expected to have 42 million users by the end of 2011 – an increase of 75 percent over last year.
According to the press release, in 2011, Open-Xchange announced agreements with 15 partners in North America, Europe and Asia. Its partners include web hosting providers, telecoms, cable carriers, system integrators, value added resellers and distributors.
“With five of the top 10 hosters in the world as our partners, this quest will now continue with more focus on the telecom, mobile and cable industries, as well as very large distributors and system integrators in the year ahead,” Rafael Laguna, CEO of Open-Xchange said in a statement. “The decision of Openwave to use Open-Xchange as the foundation for its Rich Mail 4 product gives us access to its 150 million email seats deployed at companies like Time Warner Cable, NTT DoCoMo, UPC and others. We create a complete carrier-grade solution stack with their proven messaging back-ends.”
In October, Open-Xchange announced its plans to open a new San Francisco office to support its focus on the US telecommunications market. Open-Xchange also named Bob Pacheo president and general manager Americas in October, before its summit.
Last month, Open-Xchange demonstrated a preview of the next generation of its software scheduled to be released in the second half of 2012. Open-Xchange says this new verso will focus on content, speed and simplicity, to improve the experience on mobile devices like tablets and smartphones.
