(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Cloud-based email security provider Mimecast (www.mimecast.com) announced on Monday that it will offer a free six-month package of migration services to organizations upgrading to Microsoft Exchange 2010 or Office 365.

According to a press release, the migration services will help prevent email downtime and data loss during the process.

Mimecast’s director of communities and content, Justin Pirie, is set to speak at HostingCon 2011. Pirie will speak on Monday, August 8, about the roles the traditional web hosting provider can take in the emerging cloud marketplace.

According to Mimecast, in addition to providing continued access to email through any planned or unplanned server downtime, migration services prevent data loss with a rolling 58-day email archive of all email.

The live and stored email can be accessed via Mimecast webmail mailboxes, according to the company.

“We’re about to witness a surge in email migration as companies look to take advantage of the power and flexibility of Exchange 2010 on premise, or move to Microsoft’s fully hosted email solution, Office 365,” Peter Bauer, co-founder and CEO of Mimecast said in a statement. “However, any migration process has inherent risks which, if not dealt with correctly, can result in email downtime, data loss and security lapses. We are offering organisations the chance to put in place safeguards before they migrate, essentially de-risking the entire process. Our hope is that our offer will accelerate uptake of Microsoft’s new platforms, at the same time exposing businesses to the benefits of a combined Mimecast / Microsoft email environment.”

Mimecast says it is offering an Exchange 2010 Readiness Kit for companies considering Exchange 2010 specifically. The kit includes solution briefs, how-to guides, data sheets and a webinar series on preparing for and troubleshooting migrations.

Mimecast says it is partnering with managed cloud hosting provider NaviSite (www.navisite.com) for email system migrations.

“Mimecast enables us to offer secure, highly reliable, cloud-based support for Microsoft Exchange at predictable monthly fees and without up-front expenditures—important considerations for customers undertaking email system migrations,” said Craig Sandman, senior director of strategic alliances at NaviSite. “This combination of messaging from NaviSite and email management from Mimecast not only eases the migration process, but also allows customers to quickly capitalize on the benefits offered by the next generation of Microsoft email.”

Last month, NaviSite launched its first European cloud node in Woking, UK.
