January 9, 2002 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — WorldCom (worldcom.com), a business data and Internet communications provider, yesterday announced that eMachines, Inc.
r

(emachines.com), the third largest provider of desktop personal computers sold through U.S. retailers, has selected WorldCom to host and manage the Web site for its new online direct sales channel.
r

r

Founded in Sept. 1998, eMachines has shipped more than 4 million personal
r

computers through leading retailers in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., France
r

and Spain, in addition to catalog and online merchandisers. To offer more
r

consumers direct access to its products on a global scale, eMachines turned
r

to WorldCom, with the support of its high-end managed Web and application
r

hosting affiliate Digex, to launch its first e-commerce Web site. The secure
r

site will enable customers to purchase eMachines PC products online, with
r

interactive tools and product comparison information to help consumers
r

select the best PC for their needs.
r

r

“Because our new online sales channel is a key strategy for our company, we
r

considered the selection of our Web hosting provider to be an equally
r

strategic decision,” said Murray Bognovitz, vice president, online
r

experience for eMachines. “Knowing that a proven provider, with a reputation
r

for performance, reliability, technical expertise, and the assurance of
r

long-term stability is essential to our e-commerce success, we selected
r

WorldCom.”
