Ecommerce platform provider WebLinc has raised $6 million in Series A financing from Safeguard Scientifics to help fund the development of new features for its platform. The funding will also be used to onboard third-party integration partners and expand its sales and marketing teams.
With offices in New York and Philadelphia, WebLinc’s ecommerce platform powers retailers including Nasty Gal, URBN brands Free People, BHLDN and Terrain, and U.S. Polo Assn.
According to WebLinc, its clients saw revenue increase 54 percent in Q2 2014 from Q1 2014. Mobile performance was also a highlight, with clients reporting a year-over-year increase of 98 percent.

Rasmussen, Managing Director, Technology at Safeguard said. Rasmussen will join WebLinc’s board of directors. “We are very excited to partner with the WebLinc team to take advantage of the massive opportunity in the ecommerce market.”
WebLinc’s platform is built with MongoDB and Ruby on Rails, using NGINX, Chef and Passenger for hosting.
According to the release announcing the investment, WebLinc’s early adoption of responsive web design and native mobile apps is of note, and is something that it sees as a differentiating factor from the competition.
Online retail continues to be an area of growth, particularly on the platform-side, but with more platforms for retailers to choose from, ecommerce providers have to continually add new features in order to stay competitive. Earlier this year, Ecwid closed a $5 million Series B funding round.
