(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — eBay (www.ebay.com) and Data Center Pulse (www.datacenterpulse.org) announced on Data Center Pulse’s blog the final six construction firm candidates to build its new modular data center project in Phoenix, according to a report by Data Center Knowledge.
The announcement follows the May opening of eBay’s new $287 million data center in South Jordan, Utah.
Since beginning its search last month, eBay and Data Center Pulse have received significant interest from data center design and construction companies.
Three of the six finalists were found through the Data Center Pulse RFP process.
Dean Nelson, eBay’s senior director of global data center strategy and co-founder of Data Center Pulse, revealed the list of finalists in a blog post on the company’s site.
The winning design firm will design eBay’s 8,000 square foot, two-story data center in Phoenix, which will have the capacity to store up to 12 server-filled containers on its roof.
Designing nearly 800 data centers under their belt, all six candidates have had modular experience and offerings.
They are also able to meet the companies’ efficiency committments in the design for the new data center, which calls for a combination of different techniques, such as air cooling and liquid cooling.
Nelson said that the data center aims to have containers that can use free cooling all year-round, despite Phoenix’s extreme temperatures.
Data Center Pulse recently posted a video where Nelson, eBay director of mission critical engineering Mike Lewis and California Data Center Design Group’s James Monahan reveal the six candidates and discuss the decision making process.
