August 22, 2003 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Online auctioneer eBay (ebay.com) confirmed Thursday that it experienced a power outage in its Web hosting facility that resulted in the entire auction service being down for nearly three hours.

The power outage occurred on Wednesday night between 8:55 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time.

According to reports, the power outage took place at a Qwest (qwest.com) facility in Santa Clara, California, a location for many of eBay?s Web servers.

The power outage came amid reports that eBay is seeking to bolster its redundancy and disaster recovery capabilities through the diversification of facilities to other geographic regions.

The company is said to be currently seeking nearly 200,000 square feet of facility space in the Denver, Colorado area for Web hosting and server space.
