August 13, 2008 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — UK-based web hosting and domain registrar Easyspace (easyspace.com) has added the new, and already popular, .ASIA domain name extension to its offerings.
According to Easyspace’s Wednesday announcement, .ASIA is the new Top Level Domain that enables companies and individuals to clearly show their online presence in the Asian and Pacific regions. Easyspace said the new TDL provides a channel for business expansion by reaching out to some of the fastest growing economies in the world, including China, which has recently surpassed the US in its number of internet users.
Easyspace recently launched the highly anticipated .ME domain extension along with domain registrar LCN (lcn.com) and web hosting provider Netfirms (netfirms.com) to mainly target individuals but is also available to organizations including businesses. The region-specific .asia can be registered by individuals, organisations or companies as long as at least one of the associated contacts of the .ASIA domain name is a legal entity in Asia.
“This is the second high profile domain extension we’ve launched in the last month, instantly increasing the variety of domain extension alternatives available to customers,” Easyspace sales and marketing director Errol Vanderhorst said in a statement. “We recently launched .ME, which has continued to receive a lot of attention, so we’re hoping we can build on that success in letting people know we are now offering .ASIA.”
Through Easyspace, .ASIA domains can be registered for 2 to 10 years at £16 per year.
TheWHIR recently interviewed Sedo chief executive officer Mark Klein about the emerging TLD market, and the growth and opportunity the secondary domain market presents. The secondary domain market promises to heat up as international internet regulation body ICANN (icann.org) paved the way for the loosening of TDL restrictions including multilingual TDLs following a unanimous June vote in Paris.
