(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center real estate firm Digital Realty Trust is bidding on a large data center consolidation project by government of Australian state New South Wales, according to a report by Australian IT.
To bid on the contract, the company has partnered with global investment firm Macquarie (www.macquarie.com).
NSW government wants consolidate data center properties in 130 locations to two data center facilities.
DRT and Macquarie is one of 17 applicants that has shown interest in taking on the project.
Other companies participating in the EOI process include Equinix, Fujitsu, Oracle, Sun and Global Switch.
Over the past few months, Digital Realty has been expanding its data center footprint through acquisitions of fully built and leased-out data centers.
This included an investment of $375 million for three data center properties in Massachusetts and Connecticut, as well as $63.3 million for two fully leased data center properties.
The tender process for the data center consolidation project is expected to begin by March.
