Dotmobi Extends Sunrise Period

Dotmobi Extends Sunrise Period

July 5, 2006 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Internet statistics provider Ipwalk (ipwalk.com) said on Monday that the trademark sunrise period for the .mobi domain will be extended by one month.

Originally the sunrise registration period for .mobi was supposed to end on August 22, but Dotmobi (pc.mtld.mobi), the registry managing the .mobi top-level domain will reportedly soon officially announce its plans to prolong the registration period till September 22.

Ipwalk says the main cause of this extension seems to be a general awareness issue, as Dotmobi was slow to get the attention of the press and companies may not have been aware of the .mobi TLD till now.

“We want more time to educate the business community and let them know about Dotmobi,” says Alexa Raad, Dotmobi’s VP of marketing and business development. “We are telling them that they should not just get a .mobi domain name to protect their trademark, but we also want to help them figure out how to introduce their brand to the mobile world, how to build a channel.”

Dotmobi will reportedly make a formal announcement about this extension sometime later this week.

In a WHIR feature published last week, Register.comĀ discussed the marketing potential of the .mobi domain.
