Dotster to Give Away Whois Protection
Verio Attracts Resellers with Free Month of VPS Hosting: Companies looking to boost revenues are finding Verio's Free VPS promotion the right fit for getting started as Hosting Reseller.
September 1, 2005 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) --Domain registrar and Web provider Dotster (dotster.com) announced on Thursday it will give away free WHOIS privacy protection on every .COM and .NET domain registration. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers requires registrars to keep a public WHOIS database of all registered domains along with the name, address, phone number, and email address of the registered individual or organization.
The information is hidden through Dotster's WHOIS privacy protection, so that WHOIS searchers will see Dotster's corporate information, including an anonymous email address that blocks out any spam and viruses while enabling the domain owner to recover any important messages. The abuse of information in the WHOIS database is one reason that Dotster is offering the free Privacy Post registration services.
"Privacy infringement is a concern to many people, and they may not know that it's possible to shield their identity," says George DeCarlo, VP of marketing for Dotster. "We're hoping this short give-away will draw attention to the privacy options that are available."
Customers can activate the free Privacy Post service by entering the code STOPSPAM during checkout. Dotster is featuring this code prominently on its Web site during the give-away.
