Dunja Springer, key account manager at wirecard
(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — The last session of the afternoon in the La Sala Bianca room focused on merchants offering an effective payment process for customers.
Titled “Don’t lose customers at the last step – make payment more individual”, wirecard (www.wirecard.com) key account manager Dunja Springer compared the different payment options that merchants can offer.
With ecommerce spending expected to grow in Europe from 438€ in 2009 to 601€ in 2014, Springer stressed how it only makes sense for merchants to make the payment process as simple as possible.
Springer looked at the ecommerce characteristics of German customers, which included the payment method preference of paying in cash advance.
Perhaps one of the more interesting statistics that Springer offered is that 80 percent will leave a merchant’s website if their preferred payment method is not offered.
This makes a strong argument for merchants in offering a wide range of payment methods.
Springer said that merchants should consider using the many available risk management and fraud prevention solutions, including 3D Secure, AVS, IP/BIN Verification, hotlists, and CVC verification.
She also suggested that merchants should do credit checks, implement a decision rule engine for payment, and continually learn more about their customers.
