Dome9's security management service interface
(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Cloud server security provider Dome9 Security (www.dome9.com) announced on Monday it is now offering in general availability its new multi-platform security management service that automates cloud server security for both enterprises and cloud hosting providers.
Previously available under beta, Dome9′s new service introduces two new service plans, as well as a range of new capabilities to deliver simple and scalable security management for private and public clouds across all server operating systems and service providers.
Dome9 automates and centralizes cloud server security across web hosting and cloud providers with dynamic policy controls to automate security.
Priced at $20 per server, per month, the new service uses security built into every hosted and cloud server.
Dome9 provides one-click, secure-access to customers’ cloud servers through its Secure Access Lease technology, which provides dynamically-generated, time-based secure access to cloud servers that automates security policy to make servers virtually invisible to hackers.
With Secure Access Leasing, all administrative access on a cloud server is closed by default. The technology automatically enables and disables cloud server access for a specific user and time period, eliminating the manual overhead of managing access, and maintaining a high level of security.
The service’s multi-platform nature allows it to centralize security management across multiple cloud service providers, enabling customers to apply a consistent security architecture to multiple clouds.
Dome9′s security policy is portable, providing persitent security as cloud servers are migrated or replicated within or across service providers.
“No one would leave their car unlocked in a public parking lot, and yet many of today’s 20 million cloud and virtual private servers are left unlocked in the cloud and vulnerable to attack,” said Dave Meizlik, vice president of marketing and business development for Dome9. “Administrators leave servers open so they can connect to and manage these machines, creating massive holes for hackers and malware like the recent Morto Worm to exploit. Dome9 closes these holes, securing the administrative ports such as SSH and RDP, which are otherwise left open by cloud administrators. Dome9 centrally manages security for all servers and clouds.”
The company has also introduced several new capabilities, including multi-tier administration, expanded Linux support, account activity auditing, and cloud-friendly billing.
Dome9 Central controls access to the cloud infrastructure, allowing users to control and protect the environment from any device with Internet access.
The interface incluides built-in best-practices enforcement to ensure users build the right security policy for their servers.
The Dome9 Agent works for virtual machines in private or public clouds, and for dedicated servers, supporting Linux and Windows servers running all virtualization technologies.
Dome9 Connect is an API-based integration module for cloud providers that can be used to manage Amazon’s Web Services EC2 and VPC Security Groups, without deploying complex daemons, but by using their API keys.
Dome9 is offering a free, 14-day full-featured trial, along with a free personal use plan, which includes support for one server with one administrator.
In a separate announcement, Dome9 revealed it has partnered with cloud provider GoGrid, which will offer at the end of the month Dome9′s cloud server security management service within the GoGrid Exchange.
The Dome9 Agent is now preloaded on a GoGrid Partner Server image, ready to deploy within GoGrid. A new image is available for both Windows and Linux.
