February 27, 2003 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- The Attorney General of the United States (www.usdoj.gov/ag) stated this week that it would seize Internet domain names that were allegedly used to violate the law.

American law enforcement officials intend to shut down Internet sites that violate drug or trade patents and copyrights. Federal law in the U.S. prohibits the sale of "drug paraphernalia" and hardware or software that infringes on intellectual property rights.

Once a domain is shutdown and its corresponding criminal case is successfully adjudicated, the U.S. government will take control of the domain and forward its transmission to U.S. federal Web sites.
