DiscountASP.NET Adds Failed Request Tracing

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) – Windows hosting provider DiscountASP.NET (www.discountasp.net) is launching support for Microsoft’s (www.microsoft.com) Failed Request Tracing module for Internet Information Services 7.0 (www.iis.net) on its Windows 2008 hosting platform, providing another way to diagnose and troubleshoot problems with web applications.

According to DiscountASP.NET’s Wednesday announcement, the new FRT module completely captures the trace events for a request and records them to a log file when the request fails. Analyzing the step-by-step request and response process makes it possible to identify problems by examining when they occurred and work backwards to identify the cause.

“Delivering on our goal to provide customers with maximum control over their shared hosting environment, we now offer a powerful tool to help our customers troubleshoot their web applications,” DiscountASP.NET marketing vice president Takeshi Eto said in a statement. “We are committed to innovation in our Windows 2008 hosting platform.”

For its Windows Server 2008 and IIS7 packages DiscountASP.NET has introduced Microsoft’s IIS Manager, a set of IIS administration tools that provides end users with a familiar user interface to remotely manage IIS7 server configurations. As well as using FRT for troubleshooting, customers can use IIS Manager to view settings and manipulate their web.config files for features that have been delegated to them.

A longtime provider of Microsoft Windows-based shared hosting and a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, DiscountASP.NET was one of the first hosts to launch Windows 2008 hosting and SQL 2008 hosting.

In Late October 2008, Microsoft partnered with DiscountASP.NET to offer a beta sandbox hosting environment for its Web Deployment Tool. DiscountASP.NET said it will operate the open beta until March 31, 2009, providing the first 2,000 users who sign up with 50 MB of disk space and 50 MB of SQL Server 2008 database space.
