January 23, 2003 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — E-commerce outsourcing provider Digital River Inc. (DigitalRiver.com) announced on Thursday that it has acquired certain assets and liabilities of the electronic software distribution (ESD) business belonging to Metatec International Inc.
Digital River says it plans to use Metatec’s ESD technology platform to offer expanded software distribution and entitlement management capabilities as an integrated part of its e-commerce system. The acquisition, says Digital River, opens new market opportunities for the company among large enterprise software vendors and provides an enhanced solution to the company’s existing customers.
“With our acquisition of Metatec’s ESD business, we plan to extend our target market by moving into the enterprise software market,” said Joel Ronning, Digital River’s CEO. “By integrating Metatec’s platform, we can offer large publishers a highly cost effective and efficient solution for electronic management, maintenance and distribution of software for enterprise licensees. There is a strong growth opportunity for Digital River in this strategic arena, and we are well positioned to leverage our expertise and market leadership in the desktop application software market.”
