(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Wholesale data center provider Digital Realty Trust (www.digitalrealtytrust.com) has launched a set of professional services, providing design and construction services to companies that own or want to own their own data center facility.
According to its Monday announcement, companies will be able to draw upon DRT’s data center expertise, supply chain information and blueprints, which will be available via a new offering called “POD Architecture Services,” which gives companies the expertize and resources needed to ensure each data center project’s success. The new service will be overseen by Mike Manos, who recently left Microsoft to join DRT as senior vice president of technical services.
“These services fill a gap in the market between a pure do-it-yourself approach and leasing wholesale space from an outsourced provider such as Digital Realty Trust,” Manos said in a statement. “Many companies want to own their own data center, but they do not have the internal skill set and experience to successfully tackle a construction project with the scope and complexity of a major data center facility. By using Digital Realty Trust’s POD Architecture Services, those companies can retain ownership of the facility and the process, while dramatically reducing the risks, costs and timeline by working with a team that has built hundreds of data centers around the world.”
According to DRT, POD Architecture Services lets companies that would ordinarily take a do-it-yourself approach to data centers borrow Mike Manos and the other minds at DRT, to give them an experienced team to help them through each step in the building process.
The fee-based POD Architecture Services also lets companies license DRT’s Turn-Key Datacenter design package, including its proprietary Design Engineering Guidelines, schematics, one-lines, BOMs, project/site basis and airflow modeling, enabling companies to benefit from the efficiencies of a proven model.
