(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Authentication and encryption provider DigiCert (www.digicert.com) announced on Thursday that it has launched its new EV SSL Wildcard certificate.

According to DigiCert, enterprises can now choose a package of 3, 10, or 25 EV SSL certificates to secure an entire domain name as they would with a traditional wildcard certificate.

DigiCert’s EV SSL certificates validate websites and indicate to visitors that the site has passed identity verification procedures through a label visible on the browser address bar.

Standard EV SSL certificates only secure a single name but DigiCert says its new certificate offers the flexibility of a wildcard combined with the security of EV SSL.

“DigiCert’s new EV Wildcard packages are a simple and very affordable option for securing a whole domain with EV SSL,” Travis Tidball, vice president of marketing for DigiCert said in a statement. “EV is the new standard for encryption and authentication and our EV Wildcard alternative makes it easier to extend the proven benefits of EV to your entire IT infrastructure.”

All of the certificates in the new EV SSL Wildcard package are available with a 1- or 2-year lifetime and have the same expiration date. According to DigiCert, the certificates can be used all at once or as needed over the term lifetime.

DigiCert says its new offering enables customers to secure an entire domain at the EV level at a lower cost than any other option available on the market today.

In June, DigiCert launched its free SSL Certificate Management and Troubleshooting Tool designed to enable admistrators to view all certificates on a server is one central location.
