June 24, 2002 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Managed service provider Digex Incorporated (Digex.com) announced on Monday that it has made available its new SmartContinuity Services, using the company?s new Inter Data Center Network (IDCN).
Built using WorldCom?s high-speed network, the IDCN is used by Digex to offer business continuity services.
The SmartContinuity Services, says Digex, are designed to address several layers of risk faced by corporate IT departments running complex systems. Using fail-over systems for databases and firewalls, the service applies also to architectures using the IDCN to perform transaction load balancing and database synchronization.
The SmartContinuity service delivers a range of specific offerings, including rapid recovery, through which it can quickly rebuild existing implementation; corporate presence, wherein Digex will host and redirect traffic to an alternate site; dynamic failover, which provides continuous transaction processing through server failure; standby site, which includes a dedicated backup site hosted by Digex; active standby site, in which Digex splits a client?s infrastructure between multiple facilities; development / recovery site bundle, whereby a client can have its development site used as a recovery site; and enterprise failover, which provides a recovery site for internally hosted systems.
