Webydo, a website builder focused on helping web designers automatically convert designs into hosted HTML5 websites, closed a $7 million Series B funding round on Saturday, bringing its total funding to $9.7 million.
Led by crowdfunding venture capital platform OurCrowd and Magna Capital Partners, along with other unnamed investors from the US and the UK, the funding round will be used to continue to expand features and develop additional tools for designers, according to a report by TechCrunch.
Unlike other DIY website builders, Webydo focuses on web designers and agencies rather than individuals or SMBs. Designing a website on Webydo is like using Adobe web design tools but what makes it different is the ability to quickly publish and host a website.
By focusing on the website rather than the hosting or more technical aspects of ensuring a website is available, website builders like Webydo have been successfully attracting investors. Recently, Squarespace closed a $40 million funding round to expand its engineering and infrastructure teams.
Webydo has a freemium model and the customer doesn’t pay until the website is active. Pricing for hosting starts at $9 per month for one website and 3GB of storage. The most expensive package is $85 per month for 250 websites and unlimited storage.
With a focus on community, and its “made for designers by designers” approach, many of the new features in Webydo have been requested by users. Some of the latest features being introduced to the platform in beta include the code-free Parallax Scrolling Animator and the Pixel-Perfect Responsive Editor.
According to its website, Webydo offers enterprise-level database security and uses Akamai CDN to deliver websites around the world.
