(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Unveiling 14 new enterprise products ranging from blade and web servers, and storage hardware to software and services designed for virtualized environments, Dell’s (www.dell.com) new enterprise computing portfolio is designed to providing the industry leading virtualization technology and innovative design, freeing customers from costly and proprietary technology.

According to Dell’s Wednesday announcement, its portfolio of products and services is designed to help businesses become more efficient in managing their IT infrastructure.

“Today’s economic realities are placing a premium on value and efficiency from technology,” Dell large enterprise division president Steve Schuckenbrock said in a statement. “Today we are unlocking customers from proprietary technology and services, and yesterday’s IT economics. Whether through next generation blades with on-board systems management, or modular services, we’re putting them on the path to today’s Efficient Enterprise.”

The new PowerEdge servers, now in their 11th generation offer optimized virtualization, system management, and usability capabilities, and are based on Intel’s latest Xeon processors, providing excellent performance and management capabilities. Dell’s PowerEdge R710 provides the industry’s best performance per watt in the industry according to benchmarks. All the new PowerEdge servers have Dell Lifecycle Controller embedded, which delivers integrated manageability through a single access point.

IDC Enterprise Platforms and Data Center Trends vice president Michelle Bailey noted that in creating this wide-ranging portfolio, Dell has addressed many of the challenges facing businesses looking to optimize their IT operations.

“Data center operations require a holistic view to reduce overall operational costs, whether that is people, time or money over a technology lifecycle,” Bailey said in a statement. “Dell is focused on how it integrates and aligns the enterprise technologies across its product portfolio to help companies simplify and manage their organizations’ IT infrastructure.”

Dell’s new M-series blade architecture is 27 percent cheaper for companies to purchase, and delivers 17 percent lower total cost of ownership over 5 years per rack compared to HP’s c-Class.

VMware (www.vmware.com) global alliances division vice president Brian Byun said, just like at his company, Dell helps firms “do more with less,” he said in a statement. “We achieve that through the combination of Dell servers and storage with VMware’s industry-leading virtualization solutions. Through our longstanding alliance with Dell, VMware is helping customers of all sizes across industries achieve an efficient, reliable, scalable and flexible infrastructure platform for delivery of IT as a service.”

For those interested in implementing these technologies, Dell has also unveiled a Data Center Consulting service to improve data center performance and reduce costs through server virtualization and storage/backup optimization. Dell said it can deliver specific and measurable outcomes within days and weeks not months and years using its tools and technology.
