DEAC Opens Largest Data Center in Baltic States

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Latvian data center operator DEAC (www.deac.lv) announced last week it opened a new 1,968-square-foot data center in Riga, Latvia, which is the largest and most modern data center in the Baltic States, as well as the company’s largest investment project so far.

The company invested a total of $4,367,144 in the new data center, entitled “Riga”, which took two years to build. This includes a $2,079,611 investment in the construction of the data center itself, and $2,287,562 for the facility’s infrastructure and equipment.

DEAC held a special ceremony Thursday to celebrate the opening, which was joined by Minister of Regional Development and Local Government Affairs of the Republic of Latvia Edgars Zalans.

In his speech, DEAC CEO Andris Gailitis talked about new export possibilities, specifying that up to 50 percent of the new data center capacity could be used for export.

“It is important that the organizations from other countries would use our services, however it is also important that our own organizations wouldn’t be forced to employ data centers in other countries, as it still often happens,” says Gailitis. “We still have something to aspire to.”

The data center, which holds 8,400 servers, features a modern automatic control system that controls the microclimate in server premises, the electric power supply sources, as well as other processes.

Additionally, two independent power supply sources and duplicated cooling devices ensures an uninterrupted and safe working of the data center.

According to the press release, DEAC is the largest data centre operator in Latvia, with one other data center, “Grizinkalns”.

The company has nearly 2,000 customers, including Telefonica, The Bank of Latvia, The Western Bank, the Danske Bank and The Baltic Times, in 20 different countries all over the world.
