DDoS Attacks Coming, Netcraft Says

June 10, 2004 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — According to a report by research and analysis firm Netcraft (netcraft.com), a new wave of distributed denial of service attacks has been launched against UK-based gambling sites, hampering their performance.

Netcraft is monitoring the performance of 20 Internet gambling sites. Capital Sports, which runs on Windows 2000, has been the worst affected having suffered just under 15 hours of downtime and a failed request rate of 88.98 percent. Bluesquare was the second most affected site, experiencing over two hours of downtime and Ladbrokes was third with 17 minutes of downtime. Willhill was fourth at 13 minutes of downtime.

Bluesquare said in the report that it suffered a DDoS attack shortly after refusing an extortion threat demanding $30,000.
