UK-based managed cloud services provider and integrator Adapt has been acquired by Datapipe from Lyceum Capital, the companies announced Wednesday. Adapt provides the US-based Datapipe with an expanded European presence and enhanced capabilities.

Lyceum acquired a majority stake in Adapt in 2011 for £30 million to grow the brand with a transformational strategy under CEO Stewart Smythe. Since then Adapt has pivoted from a data center colocation and connectivity reseller to a managed hosting provider and cloud integrator for business-critical applications.

Datapipe acquired multi-cloud big data IaaS provider GoGrid and AWS consultant DualSpark in 2015. The common thread in all three acquisitions is multi-cloud integration.

Under Lyceum’s ownership, Adapt extended its technical capabilities with a pair of acquisitions, of eLINIA in 2012 and Sleek in 2013, and has reached double digit growth and a 25 percent EBITDA margin. Adapt became an AWS partner in 2015, and secured Advanced Partner Status more quickly than any other AWS partner globally, according to the announcement. Adapt’s current roster of clients includes Greencore Group, The Cabinet Office, Interflora, and Steinhoff.

“Adapt and Datapipe both have cultures that focus on proactive, high touch customer service and a commitment to customer specific solutions designed to meet clients’ individual business challenges,” Robb Allen, CEO, Datapipe said in a statement.  “Our similar approach to guiding clients on their cloud journey makes the acquisition a natural fit for us and will increase our scale and service capabilities in the United Kingdom, and the broader European market.”

Smythe will be retained to lead Datapipe’s European business. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Together with Lyceum we have achieved a phenomenal amount over a short space of time to truly transform Adapt into the market leader it is today,” said Stewart Smythe, Chief Executive of Adapt. “We have integrated three businesses to create a new high performing and customer-focussed operation, building a talented management team, creating a new go-to-market and developing a professional sales organisation.  Today Adapt’s unique Habitat offering provides market-leading hybrid and multi cloud services delivered from one integrated platform to support our customers’ mission-critical business applications.  Coming together with Datapipe will accelerate our strategy to develop into a truly global business.”
