(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — IT solutions provider DataChambers (www.datachambers.com) announced on Tuesday it plans to build a second data center on its 80-acre Winston-Salem, North Carolina campus.
The company also announced it will expand on its existing data center for the second time in less than a year.
In September, DataChambers invested over $600,000 to increase the data center’s available floor space by 25 percent, as well as upgrade the redundant power, air conditioning, fire suppression and security systems.
The two projects, which are expected to more than double DataChambers’ capacity to serve customers, will cost the company more than $7 million.
“We’re responding to a strong growth in our business – fueled by companies trying to do more with limited budgets,” says Nicholas Kottyan, CEO of DataChambers. “Typically our clients find we can deliver a level of service they simply are unable to replicate affordably on their own.”
DataChambers serves more than 110 customers in 28 states from its current data center, housing both their backup systems and the primary data networks that underpin their business.
The new data center will span 20,000 square feet from a series of vacant rooms in the former Western Electric manufacturing plant that serves as the company’s more than 140,000 square foot headquarters.
Located 18 feet underground in a blast-resistant structure, the company has already begun on the interior demolition of the building with construction expected to begin in the fall.
The company has also started construction on expanding its existing data center to maximum capacity by reconfiguring walls and adding another 1,500 square feet of space.
The company has hired Landmark Builders of Winston-Salem as he prime contractor for both projects, with North Carolina vendors Adams Electric, Clear Site Demolition, NEO Corporation and Systems Contractors are also participing in the construction.
DataChambers provides IT and managed services with a focus in electronic data storage, managed IT solutions, colocation, secure tape vaulting, and offsite records storage and management.
