Data Foundry Breaks Ground on Austin Data Center

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Colocation and data center operator Data Foundry (www.datafoundry.com) announced on Tuesday it has broken ground at its second Austin Data Center

First announced in May, the 250,000 square foot data center that will reside on its new Data Ranch campus. At the time of the announcement, the company reported that the build would cost $150 million.

Phase one of the data center build, which is set to be completed in the second quarter of 2011, will include a 130,000 square foot facility.

Designed from the ground up, ADC2 will provide colocation, data center and disaster recovery services to support both the demand and growth of Data Foundry’s existing customer base and attract new companies.

As Data Foundry’s second Austin data center, ADC2 is located on the 40 acre Data Ranch campus in Central Texas, near Austin Bergstrom International Airport.

The Data Ranch campus features 100MW of power, end-to-end underground power feeds from diverse substations, dual diverse entry points for power, telecom, and water, and availability of over 15 telecom providers. This infrastructure is incorporated into the design of the ADC2.

The 130,000 square foot first phase is Tier III designed with fully enclosed indoor UPS and generator systems, as well as concurrently maintainable power and cooling systems.

The ADC2 will be optimized for client disaster recovery and back up requirements, along with its ability to serve primary colocation needs.

“This groundbreaking ceremony marks the beginning of construction on our new premium data center at the Data Ranch Campus,” says Edward Henigin, chief technology officer of Data Foundry. “The event celebrates the community it will serve and the opportunities afforded through its next-generation design and multi-megawatt power capabilities. This mission critical infrastructure is key to attracting large Enterprise and service providers considering Texas for their expansions.”

ADC2′s design can support customers with requirements for a single cabinet up to multi-megawatt deployments as well as worksite recovery stations.

Customized options to suit customers’ needs include private data suites built with fully-enclosed hard walls starting at 2,500 square feet, which is staffed by trained security and engineering teams around the clock.
