Inside ColoHouse's Miami data center
(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Comcast Business Services (www.business.comcast.com) announced on Tuesday that its division in Florida’s east coast region has partnered with data center provider ColoHouse (www.colohouse.com) to provide customers with Internet and telecommunications connectivity in the event of a power loss.
This partnership comes two weeks after ColoHouse appointed a new marketing manager.
Comcast says this is particularly important in this region due to the need for disaster recovery and business continuity during hurricane season – from around June to November. Customers will be able to connect with Comcast facilities at the ColoHouse data center to establish backup services.
The backup and recovery service is available for businesses of any size, according to the press release.
“During the hurricane season, the daily operations and profitability of many businesses in South Florida can be greatly affected by severe weather,” Comcast’s vice president of business services for the Florida East Coast Region, Steven Schmitz said in a statement. “This partnership with ColoHouse provides Comcast business customers additional power options to help protect their network-based operations during a major storm.”
“This is another example of how Comcast is revolutionizing business services in Miami by providing services that used to be obtainable only by larger companies,” Schmitz added.
The backup will be provided by ColoHouse’s Miami data center. The 24,000 square foot facility is able to withstand a Category Five hurricane. According to the National Hurricane Center website, the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale categorizes hurricanes from 1 to 5. A category five hurricane has winds greater than 155 mph, according to the website.
According to the press release, ColoHouse’s data center is also located outside FEMA’s 500 year flood zone.
“Whether it’s redundant power and cooling systems, modern equipment or special hurricane-rated facilities, we can offer new innovations and reliability to help ensure disaster recovery and business continuity,”Richard E. Duman, vice president of sales engineering for ColoHouse said in a statement. “As more organizations rely on network connectivity to drive and support their daily operations, the need for BC/DR becomes even more critical to serving customers and protecting the overall integrity of the business.”
