December 5, 2003 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Managed and infrastructure services provider NaviSite, Inc. (navisite.com) said today that it has been selected to provide Internet and email services for Development Alternatives Inc., (DAI), an international consulting firm based in Bethesda, Maryland.

NaviSite said that the threat of power and service outage spurred DAI to find a provider that could deliver secure and reliable service. DAI was concerned about the potential for service disruption in light of Hurricane Isabel, one of 14 hurricanes that reached the mid-Atlantic region of the United States and left business and homes without power.

“Our concern was that power or Internet service failures were a real possibility and would leave our mail server down,” said Larry Campbell, IT director for Development Alternatives Inc. “NaviSite’s state-of-the-art data center in Vienna, Virginia provided us with a scalable, resilient, and secure operating environment. Our clients and employees use email as a primary means of communication, so we needed to be absolutely sure that our systems were with a reliable provider, and that was key to our decision.”

In addition to the Virginia facility, NaviSite operates 14 data centers throughout the United States.

“We are very pleased to have Development Alternatives hosted within our northern Virginia data center,” said Tim Burks, vice president of I-Services for NaviSite. “With redundant bandwidth, remote hands, and technical assistance at the location, Development Alternatives can focus on the business of winning contracts and servicing clients while it leaves the IT heavy-lifting to NaviSite.”
