(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Colocation provider CyrusOne (www.cyrusone.com) announced on Wednesday it has signed a long term lease agreement to acquire real estate to build a 50,000-square-foot data center in Austin, Texas.
The new data center will bring the company’s total Texas data center footprint to six facilities spanning 380,000 square feet, which includes two facilities in Houston, three in Dallas and one in Austin.
The company recently added 81,000 square feet to its existing 80,000 square foot Lewisville facility, as well as commissioned two new data halls spanning 25,000 square feet in its existing 125,000 square foot Houston campus.
The new data center is located in Austin’s data center business park, The MetCenter. The site has two on-site electric substations each with the capacity to reach 400 megawatts fed from separate power sources, an underground electrical infrastructure and redundant telecom and water infrastructure.
With the opening of the Austin data center, CyrusOne brings two anchor clients. Although the press release does not specify the companies by name, it notes that one company is in the Global Top 10 and the other in the Fortune 500, while both companies being in the energy industry.
These initial clients will allow CyrusOne to enter the market with positive operating income.
CyrusOne will immediately offer disaster recovery and business continuity services in the Austin site will be available immediately for customers, while data center space will come online in the third quarter of this year.

Austin has become a popular market for national and international enterprise colocation because of its relatively low cost of stable power, an abundance of highly skilled technical labor, minimal risk for natural disasters, and predictable weather conditions.
Built by the CyrusOne construction team with the same features present in the other CyrusOne facilities, the new Austin data center will complement its existing Houston and Dallas colocation offerings for customers.
CyrusOne offers data centers in the Southwestern United States, currently supporting server installations that use up to 1,000 watts of power per square foot.
According to the company, this high density enables customers to “implement more sophisticated applications and handle larger volumes of mission-critical information.”
Designed for zero downtime, CyrusOne’s data centers accommodate the latest server technologies in a fully redundant, 2N power and cooling configuration.
