October 5, 2001 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Cable & Wireless (cw.com), a global telecommunicationscompany, announced yesterday that Digital Island (digitalisland.net), itsrecently acquired subsidiary specialising in managed hosting and contentdelivery, will spearhead the group's Web services capabilities. DigitalIsland also announced the launch of its new leading edge customer offering,2Way Web Services, with three major international customers already signedup.

Digital Island's offering enables enterprises to transact, deliver andmanage e-business content to reduce operating costs and increase revenues,while ensuring high quality service for end users. It will leverage thestrength and scope of Cable & Wireless' global IP backbone and hostingfacilities to offer an enhanced portfolio of Web infrastructure services.

Customers can now go to a financially strong, end-to-end e-businessinfrastructure provider for connectivity, both inside their organisation andwith external parties, as well as managed hosting and content deliveryservices. This enables them to reduce the complexity of theirinfrastructure, the time required to manage it and, ultimately, the totalcost of owning it.

2Way Web Services enables businesses to progress from using the Web simplyfor distributing information to being able to interact with customers andsuppliers and conduct electronic trading in a fast, reliable and secureenvironment, on a global basis. Using 2Way Web Services, businesses cancomplete more transactions at a lower cost per transaction - therebyincreasing the profitability and performance of their online operationswhile simultaneously decreasing the cost.

Walt Disney Internet Group is using 2Way Web Servicesto handle flash crowds at Web sites such as ESPN.com. Digital Island hasbeen appointed Web Services partner for the following Pearson companies; FTGroup, Pearson Education, and the Penguin Group.
