October 10, 2002 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Communications carrier Cable & Wireless (CW.com) announced this week that it has asked a US District Court to prevent its content delivery network competitor Akamai Technologies Inc. (,Akamai.com) from selling its EdgeSuite products and services, saying the product infringes on a key, patented technology that works to find alternative paths for information to travel.
If granted, says C&W, the preliminary injunction would prevent Akamai from marketing and selling products and services that infringe on Cable & Wireless?s US Patent 6,275,470 covering the Host-to-Host Adaptive Routing Protocol (HHARP), the company?s optimal-routing technology.
The request for an injunction is the latest in a patent-related legal battle between the companies that stretches back to 2001, in which each company has accused the other of infringing on its patents.
