July 19, 2002 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Telecommunications company Cable & Wireless (CW.com) said Thursday that it has made changes to the senior management team for Cable & Wireless Global, the company?s IP and data business in the US, Europe and Japan.
Simon Cunningham, the current CEO of Cable & Wireless Japan/Asia, will become CEO of the company?s US business in the beginning of August. He will take over the position from Bill Austin, formerly chief financial officer of Exodus, the hosting and Web services business acquired by Cable & Wireless in February of 2002. Austin led the restructuring and sale of the company?s assets to Cable & Wireless, as well as the integration of the group?s hosting operations, including those of Digital Island, acquired in August 2001.
As CEO of Cable & Wireless Japan/Asia, Cunningham led the growth and transformation of the business from a primarily voice telephony carrier into delivering a full rage of communications services, including the integration of Exodus, Digital Island and PSINet Japan over the last year.
