Current.tv Picks Limelight Network

November 21, 2006 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Content delivery network provider Limelight Networks (limelightnetworks.com) announced on Monday it has been chosen as the delivery network for Current.tv (current.tv), a popular online counterpart of the Current television network.

As the CDN for Current.tv, Limelight will deliver the combination of professional and viewer-created video content featured on cable and satellite network Current TV. Launched in 2005 and co-founded by Al Gore and Joel Hyatt, Current TV says it defined the programming model of viewer created content and audience participation.

Roughly a third of the on-air content comes from viewer created content and the public can vote for its favorite videos, the best of which are broadcast on the network, a first in online and television broadcasting, says Current TV.

“Limelight Networks was designed with video-intensive, interactive online communities like Current TV in mind,” says Lou Greco, VP of sales at Limelight Networks. “With the accelerated adoption of online creation and sharing of rich digital media, many networks will be challenged to offer consistent performance on a large scale. We are focused on meeting the demanding and increasing needs of the digital entertainment industry as it flourishes and matures.”

Limelight Networks recently announced it has named Jeffrey W. Lunsford CEO and chairman of the board of directors.
