(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Business technology solutions and services provider CSC (www.csc.com) announced on Tuesday that the company has signed an agreement with the Department of Defense (www.defenselink.mil) to cooperate regarding cyber security and threats.
The deal follows CSC’s partnership with IT provider Terremark Worldwide to offer cloud computing services to the US government in January.
CSC is one of thousands of private sector companies in the defense industrial base that support DoD programs, but among a small initial group of companies to sign the agreement as a member of the Defense Industrial Base Program.
The agreement expands on the safeguarding vital defense information that is vital to US defense and national security, where the two organizations will collaborate on protecting the DoD from third party attempts to attack network systems.
Additionally, DoD and DIB Program members will use these experiences to improve risk management of critical network infrastructures.
The agreement coincides withiPresident Obama’s Comprehensive National Cybersecurity initiative.
The technical practices developed within the DIB Program will improve the protection and security of information.
As the agreement is implemented, the DoD and CSC will develop a framework to characterize cyber threats to the defense industrial base to help in developing measures to combat and mitigate these threats.
“As a major provider of IT outsourcing and infrastructure support for the DoD and many of the companies in the defense industrial base, CSC’s proactive approach to cyber security will aid our clients as they implement their own agreements with the DoD,” says CSC’s chief information officer David McCue. “Of equal importance, our approach will help clients worldwide safeguard critical infrastructures vital to their missions and the customers they serve in energy, healthcare, transport, finance and other sectors.”
CSC provides technology-enabled solutions and services through three primary lines of business, including business solutions and services, the managed services sector and the North American public sector.
The company recently launched key services designed to help businesses and public sector organizations build and manage their cloud computing environments.
