October 20, 2004 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider CrystalTech (crystaltech.com) announced on Tuesday that it has been granted Safe Harbor status by the US Department of Commerce.
The Safe Harbor provides a framework and legal protection allowing the safe transfer of personal information from European Union countries to businesses in the United States. Receiving the status obliges the US company to give European Union residents adequate data privacy protections, including notice about how their personal information is used and the ability to limit disclosure of that information and access to the data.
“CrystalTech hosts Web sites for businesses and individuals from approximately 100 different countries. With such a diverse and growing international customer base, we want to reassure our European customers, and all of our customers, that we treat their data in the most ethical manner,” says Tim Uzzanti, president and CEO of CrystalTech.
