Craigslist Silent as its Canadian Sites Inaccessible

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — The Canadian sites for online marketplace Craigslist are down, according to various reports on Tuesday.

While Craigslist has not made a public announcement yet, its website landing page cites “technical issues” as currently affecting Craigslist Canada “for many users.” Some sites are coming back online gradually, but not all functions are working yet.

This message appears to have replaced a more lengthy explanation that claims “the website formerly operating at this domain violated Craigslist’s Terms of Use and/or enabled or facilitated others in violating the TOU, and/or infringed Craigslist’s trademark(s) or other intellectual property.”

“Craigslist does not permit automated posting or the employment of posting agents (software or human). Users who post non-local or irrelevant content, repeatedly post the same or similar content, or otherwise misuse Craigslist’s services detract from the user experience for all Craigslist users.”

The sites have been spotty, and have apparently been online at some points on Tuesday. Craigslist says it is currently investigating the outage, according to its status page.

There are 55 Canadian Craigslist sites, including Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal and Edmonton.

Craigslist sites in other countries appear to be working properly.

Last year, Craigslist pulled “erotic” ads from its Canadian websites after continuous government requests, apparently to prevent ads soliciting underage prostitution and human trafficking from being listed on the sites.
