Cox Business Provides Continuity Services at SuperNAP

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Voice, data and video services provider Cox Business (www.cox.com) has extended its fiber network to the 407,000 square foot SuperNAP data center, allowing Cox Business to serve as the primary and back-up network connection for all data center customers to meet their business continuity requirements.

Owned and operated by Switch Communications Group (www.switchnap.com), the Las Vegas data center is equivalent in size to ten football fields, making it’s one of the largest and also one of the most power dense commercial data centers in the world. According to its Wednesday announcement, Cox Business has built dual fiber entries into it, supported by redundant network switching centers and multiple OC-192 fiber rings. Existing Cox Business customers can also now easily extend their wide area network services to connect to any of Switch’s six data centers.

“The SuperNAP is a world-class hosting facility and Cox provides leading data transport solutions – it’s a natural fit for businesses seeking carrier-class connectivity to offsite application servers and sensitive corporate data,” said Gil Rapley, vice president of Cox Business and Hospitality Network in Las Vegas.

SuperNAP features patented power, cooling and physical security systems that ensure uninterrupted service. It also features multiple telecommunications carriers to provide broad network connectivity options and create network redundancy.

“Reliability and network connectivity are key factors for data center customers and any communications carrier we bring into this environment must meet rigorous requirements,” Switch Communications Group chief marketing officer Chris Donnelly said in a statement. “Cox Business is a trusted provider for thousands of businesses in the region and the company helps ensure our customers experience premium service levels.”

According to Vertical Systems Group (www.verticalsystems.com) research, Cox Business is the fourth largest provider of business Ethernet services in the US based on customer ports, and is the currently the seventh largest voice service provider in the US, supporting more than 650,000 business phone lines.
