Court Upholds Digital Island/Akamai Patent Ruling

May 29, 2002 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — The US District Court of Massachusetts upheld a previous jury verdict yesterday in a patent dispute between Akamai Technologies (Akamai.com) and Digital Island, Akamai said yesterday.

In December, a Boston jury ruled that Web hosting and content delivery firm Digital Island, now a part of communications firm Cable & Wireless, had infringed on several patents held by Akamai, a provider of e-business and content delivery services.

The ruling by judge Rya Zobel upheld the court’s previous decision that Digital Island’s Footprint content delivery service infringed on several asserted claims of Akamai’s patent.
