Phase one of CoreSite's data center campus is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2010, yielding 8 megawatts of electrical capacity and 50,000 square feet of new data center space.
(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center, colocation and peering provider CoreSite (www.coresite.com) has announced it will be opening a new, energy-efficient data center campus in Santa Clara, California, which will consist of three buildings that will total more than 410,000 square feet of data center space and cost $350 million.
According to CoreSite’s announcement, phase one of the project is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2010, yielding 8 megawatts of electrical capacity and 50,000 square feet of new data center space. CoreSite’s development plans also include two additional 180,000 square foot data centers, delivering a total power capacity of 49 megawatts.
“CoreSite Santa Clara will showcase the company’s expertise in delivering high-value, reliable, and energy-efficient data centers from the ground up,” CoreSite data center division vice president Billie Haggard said in a statement. “The Santa Clara data center design combines what is best for our customers and what is best for the environment in a truly ‘win-win’ scenario.”
The CoreSite Santa Clara data center campus will be built to the US Green Building Council’s LEED Gold standards, placing it among only a handful of North American facilities of the same caliber.
It has energy efficient features air-side economization, which reduces energy consumption by using outside air to cool the data center, as well as other important energy efficient design aspects such as 95-percent-efficient UPS units, variable-speed fans, and zoned lighting, which will help significantly reduce its Power Usage Effectiveness. The highly efficient design also supports concurrent maintainability with a 2N UPS configuration, ensuring maximum uptime levels.
Along with its energy efficient design, CoreSite Santa Clara will offer enhanced security features such as mantraps, CCTV surveillance and biometric scanners. Once construction and commissioning are complete, CoreSite’s Santa Clara data center will undergo a SAS 70 audit.
In addition to the new data center campus, CoreSite currently operates two other Bay Area data centers, along with eight other facilities across the US.
