CoreSite Plans 6MW Facility Expansion in Reston

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center provider CoreSite (www.coresite.com) announced on Tuesday its planned six Megawatt expansion of its Northern Virginia data center in Reston, which is scheduled to be completed by this December.

The announcement follows CoreSite’s recent completion of 20,000 square feet of space at the company’s downtown Chicago data center, which now offers 2 Megawatts of power.

The Reston data center expansion will incorporate a handful of initiatives to reinforce energy efficiency levels, including water-side economization, variable speed fan air conditioning units, 95 percent-efficient UPS units, Tier II generators (lower pollutants than Tier I), and zoned lighting.

Each initiative will play a significant role in ensuring the data center is highly energy efficient and achieves a PUE below 1.5. Oncew the expansion phase is completed, CoreSite’s Northern Virginia data center will offer a total power capacity of 12MW.

The additional private data center rooms and cage-to-cabinet colocation space will feature access to CoreSite’s Any2 Northeast exchange.

Last month, CoreSite announced the connection of its Northern Virginia, Washington, DC and New York data centers via its Any2 Northeast Internet exchange, giving customers access to over 100 networks between the two markets.

“CoreSite’s expansion in Northern Virginia demonstrates our commitment to building data centers with our customers’ success in mind,” says Billie Haggard, CoreSite’s vice president of data centers . “Increased energy efficiency provides existing and prospective clients with increased flexibility, reliability and sustainability.”

Formerly called CRG West before relaunching in June as CoreSite, the company it partners with customers to provide reliable, secure data centers that improve business continuity and promote the growth of their ICT infrastructure.

CoreSite builds and manages data centers across the US, offering more than two million square feet of wholesale data center space and colocation services to more than 500 customers.
